Angewandte Festival 2019
With a completely new exhibition and event concept, the University of Applied Arts Vienna presents itself to the end of the academic year 2018/19.
The Angewandte Festival opens the institution and seeks to negotiate socio-political issues as well as artistic positions in and with the public. In the partly new premises of the Angewandte the departments and the former exhibition format "The Essence" will be extended by a diverse program under the theme Openings. In addition to different exhibition settings of all artistic departments, the Oskar Kokoschka Platz will be closed to traffic and to the stage for multidisciplinary contributions, which should encourage active participation and discussion.
With interventions, installations, exhibitions, performances, concerts, workshops, tours and screenings, the Angewandte not only shows the variety of subjects, but also the artistic and scientific practice and its processes as well as the interdisciplinary approach. The aim of the festival is to illustrate the entanglement and interaction of theory and practice, fine arts and design, research and science, to highlight problem areas of current phenomena of society and to test new fields of knowledge production.
